Description

What is tramadol?

Strong painkiller tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain that is not being treated by other painkillers. A synthetic opioid, tramadol operates on the brain and spine (central nervous system) to lessen pain perception.

Tramadol is available in an extended-release formulation for the continuous management of pain. Tramadol in this form should not be used to treat pain on an as-needed basis.

Warnings

Tramadol users have been known to get seizures. If you exceed the recommended dose, your risk of seizures is increased. A seizure disease, some antidepressants, and opioid drugs all increase the chance of seizures.

If you have significant respiratory issues, a blockage in your stomach or intestines, or if you recently used alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, narcotic medication, or an MAO inhibitor, you should avoid taking tramadol.

Your breathing may slow down or stop when using tramadol, which has the potential to become habit-forming. Misuse of this medication, particularly in children or other people taking it without a prescription, has the potential to result in addiction, overdose, or even death. Keep this medication out of the reach of others.

Children under the age of 12 and those under the age of 18 who have recently undergone surgery to remove their tonsils or adenoids should not be given tramadol. Anyone under the age of 18 should not be administered Ultram ER.

Prior to using this medication

Tramadol should not be used by anyone with the following conditions:

  • severe respiratory or asthmatic issues;

  • a gastrointestinal obstruction, such as paralytic ileus;

  • if you've recently used alcohol, tranquilizers, sedatives, or drugs that contain opiates; or

  • If an MAO inhibitor was utilized within the last 14 days

Some tramadol users have experienced seizures. You may be more susceptible to seizures if you've ever:

  • a concussion, epilepsy, or another seizure condition;

  • addiction to drugs or alcohol; or

  • a metabolic condition.

The best way to take tramadol is.

Tramadol should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Read all medication instructions and adhere to the guidelines on your prescription label. Never take tramadol in excess of the recommended dose or for longer than advised. If you experience a stronger desire to take more of this medication, let your doctor know.

Never give someone else tramadol, especially if they have a history of drug addiction. ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH CAN RESULT FROM MISUSE. Keep the medication out of the reach of others. It is illegal to sell or give away this medication.

In order to prevent exposure to a potentially lethal overdose, swallow the capsule or tablet whole. Not to be broken, opened, chewed, or dissolved.

Keep your items at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Monitor your medication intake. If somebody is utilizing it incorrectly or without a prescription, you should be informed of it.

Never store leftover tramadol. Someone using it carelessly or mistakenly can die after just one dose. Where can I find a medicine take-back disposal program? Ask your pharmacist. If there is no take-back program, place the remaining medication in a sealed plastic bag with cat litter or coffee grounds. Place the bag in the garbage.

Dosage Details

Common Adult Pain Dose

Adults (17+): 50–100 mg taken orally every 4–6 hours as needed for pain – For people who don't need an immediate analgesic effect: Initial dosage is 25 mg taken once day, followed by titrations of 25 mg every three days to a dose of 25 mg four times daily, and then an increase of 50 mg as tolerated every three days.

Maximum daily dose: 400 mg

If I take too much, what happens?

Get immediate medical help or dial 1-800-222-1222 for poison help. Particularly in children or other people using the medication without a prescription, an overdose can be fatal. Severe sleepiness, pin-point pupils, delayed respiration, or no breathing are all possible overdose signs.

Your doctor might advise you to get naloxone, a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose, and keep it on hand at all times. If you stop breathing or don't wake up, someone who is taking care of you can administer the naloxone. While waiting for aid to arrive, your caretaker may need to revive you with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Your caregiver must still seek emergency medical attention.

Naloxone is available for purchase from any drugstore or community health center. Make certain anyone taking care of you is aware.
