An apostille is a form of authentication that is used to certify the authenticity of a public document issued in one country for use in another country. The Hague Convention of 1961, which is also known as the Apostille Convention, established a simplified system for the authentication of public documents in the countries that are party to the convention. In India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is responsible for issuing apostilles for documents that are to be used in countries that are party to the Apostille Convention.
