Christ (Deemed-to-be-University) made a humble beginning in 1969 as Christ College with four programmes, 379 students, 20 teaching and 8 non-teaching staff. Postgraduate courses were offered by the university from 1990, onwards.
Christ University has the rare distinction of being the first institution in Karnataka to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1998. In 2004, the University Grants Commission (UGC) conferred Christ College with autonomy and in 2006 it was identified as an Institution with Potential for Excellence. Further, in 2008 the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India declared it as a ‘Deemed-to-be-University’.
