Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) introduced the BCom (Honours) programme to its basket of contemporary and progressive programmes, in June 2010. This programme caters to commerce aspirants who desire to build their professional competence on a higher plateau with specialized knowledge in the field of Business and Commerce

The curriculum is duly developed considering the desired level of knowledge exposure in the context of ever changing environment in global business

The three year BCom (Honours) degree programme is divided into six semesters and is designed as per the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) model curriculum prescribed by UGC. It includes core papers, discipline specific electives, generic electives and skill enhancement courses. Discipline specific electives offered in the fifth and the sixth semesters are in the following streams: Finance & Investment and Banking & Insurance. Students are required to undertake a research work (research article or report) during the fifth and the sixth semesters

Students are also required to complete two inter-disciplinary open elective courses in diverse disciplines [Humanities / Sciences] during the first two years of the BCom (Honours) programme after regular class hours. Successful completion of two such courses is mandatory for obtaining the BCom (Honours) degree. Each open elective course will enable students to earn two extra credits.

Programme Objectives of BCom (Hons)

1. To provide advanced knowledge in Commerce.
2. To develop competency in students to pursue higher level programmes such as CA, ICWA, ACS, MBA or other Masters Programmes in Commerce / Management.
3. To pursue a professional career and/or furthering higher education in the specified areas of specialization.
4. To enhance employability and to be able to take up challenging job assignments.
5. To nurture the students in intellectual, personal, interpersonal and societal skills with a focus on Holistic Education

Programme Outcomes:

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) programme at CHRIST, develops business graduates who understand their responsibilities as global and national citizens; and as leaders in economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability and well-being. The programme aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge,  skills and attributes  needed to excel in the globalized modern business environment or further academic pursuits. 

Honours programme Graduates will be able to demonstrate their skills in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Investments, Banking, Insurance, Marketing, Human Resources  and Information systems.   Apart from understanding the concepts and theories in detail, they will also be able to apply them using various quantitative and problem solving techniques.

Graduates will also acquire advanced knoweldge in at least two specialized subject areas viz. Finance and Investments or Banking and Insurance. The programme also enables graduates to acquire professional qualification through globally eminent bodies like Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Institute of Management Accountants and Insurance Institute of India. The Curricular and Extracurricular activities are designed in a way so as to provide for Holistic development of an individual.
