B.Tech in Chemical Engineering
Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering wherein the principles of chemistry, applied physics, applied mathematics, and life sciences are combined to use, produce, and transform materials and energy efficiently. It is closely related to fields such as biotechnology, pharmacy, nanotechnology, and petroleum sciences and finds applications in process industries.
Engineers in this field see both employment and research opportunities in a host of manufacturing and service industries such as food, material, petroleum, plastics, power production, pharmaceutical, nuclear energy, environment control, material sciences and many others. Companies like Reliance, ABB, L&T, HUL, Jindal Steels, Vedanta, BASF, MCF, Michelin India, etc recruit graduates of Chemical Engineering from MIT, Manipal.
The Chemical Department in MIT, Manipal was established in 1969, making it one of the oldest departments of the institution. In addition to state-of-the-art laboratories and a current, relevant course curriculum, the department also has an MOU with University of Nottingham and University of South Wales for postgraduate studies.
A B.Tech in Chemical Engineering is a 4-year course divided up into eight semesters. The subjects in focus are mostly physical chemistry related such as Thermodynamics, Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Transport Phenomena, etc. The eighth semester is reserved for industrial training and/or student projects.
Practice School:
Manipal Institute of Technology has a unique feature in the curriculum that the students get the opportunity to spend time in the industry. The UG students have to spend in the industry for 4-6 months during their final semester. The PG students of Manipal University Mangalore need to spend 10-12 months of their 2nd year in the industry to gain valuable industry exposure. This allows the students to be productive from day 1 of their professional working career.

Recruitment Process:
The Associate Director sends invitations for campus recruitment to prospective companies to visit the campus for recruiting UG & PG students. The date of the visit is finalized on the basis of mutual convenience. The Pre-placement talks are conducted in large auditorium/ seminar hall. The central computing facility helps to conduct online tests. The group discussions and personal interviews are conducted in AC mini-conference and individual rooms.
