Why should I do the 3 year LLB course rather than 5 years LLB? In which way is it beneficial?

Ideally, if a candidate is class 12th student or pass out, she/he should go for 5 years law programme without giving any thought to the 3-year LLB course in future and if she/he is already pursuing or an undergraduate degree, asking a question about 5 years law or making comparisons therewith makes no sense. A class 12th student may think of doing law later only if he is not fully convinced to take up law as a career.

Both 3-year & 5-year LLB courses are equally good and lead to the same destination - enabling you to become a lawyer

Arguably, 5-year LL.B. programmes, particularly at NLUs and top law schools like JGLS or Symbiosis have placed their graduates in national/international law firms and corporate legal departments or consulting companies in a much better way.

However, most of the litigators in district and high courts, judges in lower and higher judiciary, academicians and law officers in the government have come from 3-year LL.B. courses of University Law Departments and Faculties. The hardworking and keen 3-year LLB graduates secure jobs in law firms and corporate legal as well.

Important in this context for a law aspirant is to aim for and secure admission to a top law school/faculty to get a wholesome legal education and learning experience whether its 5-year LLB or 3-year LLB.

Can a science student do LLB?

Yes, you can go for law degree after science stream, if you want to become lawyer after 12th standard then you can go for some integrated degree like B.A + LL.b hons or BBA + LL.b Hons. or B. Com + LL.b hons. depending on your interest.

Eligibility for all of these degrees in most of the top universities is pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 and you might have to clear some entrance test. (Depending upon the university you want to take admission in.)
