About BIT

The department of Instrumentation Technology was started in the year 1981-82 with the intake of 40 and later it was increased to 60. As indicated by the continuous opinion from the alumnae and up to date necessities from the core industries, the department has been renamed as Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.

The department started new PG course in the academic year 2014-15 onwards with the sanctioned intake of 24.

The main aim of this department is, to fulfill the requirement in frontier technology of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in the area of manufacturing, Instrumentation, Process control, Embedded System, Signal Processing and industrial automation.

The department has been continuously imparting standard and quality service to the students for the past 36 years. The department produced 32 batches of undergraduates so far in which 15 batches under Bangalore University and 18 batches under Visvesvaraya Technological University. The department has been inculcating moral values in addition to the curricular and co-curricular activities. The Research and Development Centre was started in the academic year 2010-2011 to guide and assist the research scholars.

Career Prospects and Job Opportunities

Since B. Tech in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering course is concentrated on both electronic instrumentation and computer-related processes, it makes an Electronics Instrumentation engineer fit for both hardware and software industries, thereby opening many interesting channels for employment. Graduates can seek jobs in public-sector companies such as Instrumentation Ltd., Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. and private companies such as Honeywell and other IT companies.

B. Tech in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is designed to train students in specialized areas of Electronics like Solid State Circuits, VLSI, Electronic Controls and Communications Engineering including, Multiple Access Technology and Microwave Engineering. The course trains students to develop and implement electronic and electric instruments for monitoring physical phenomena during industrial processes.

Professionals in this field get to manufacture chips, cell phones, and other electrical appliances. Successful graduates also have career scopes in several fields including remote sensing, textile and chemical industries, agricultural- based industries and aeronautical areas apart from all the industries in the manufacturing segment.

They are recruited by a variety of industries in the various domain such as Design, Development, Automation, Control, Fabrication, Inspection, Quality Control, Maintenance and Service and so on. They can work in Process Industries (refineries, fertilizers, paper, power plant, food processing, chemical etc.), Process Automation (Emerson), Factory Automation (Hyundai). Besides, they can also go for fields like Avionics (Measurement and Stability), Automobile, Electronics, Biomedical etc. The average salary range for a fresher in this field in India is INR 4-5 lakhs per annum which is proportional to experience and skill set.
