A Legal Metrology Certificate for Manufacturer (LMCM) is a mandatory requirement for companies engaged in the manufacturing of weights and measures in India. It is issued by the Legal Metrology Department of the respective state in which the manufacturing facility is situated. The LMCM ensures compliance with legal standards, enhances trust, reduces trade barriers, and contributes to government revenue.

To apply for a LMCM, manufacturers must submit the following documents:

• Application form (LM-1)


• Company registration certificate


• Partnership deed (if applicable)


• Affidavit of compliance


• Affidavit of non-conviction


• Proof of possession of premises


• Factory license


• Machinery details


• Photographs of the manufacturing facility


• Pollution Board NOC (if applicable)


• Modal Approval Certificate from the Director of the Legal Metrology Department

The application process is as follows:

1. Submit the application form and supporting documents to the District Nodal Officer.


2. The District Nodal Officer will forward the application to the Inspector (Legal Metrology Officer) based on the firm's location.


3. The Inspector will inspect the manufacturing facility and verify the documents.


4. If everything is in order, the Inspector will issue the LMCM.

The LMCM is valid for one year and must be renewed annually.
