Collaboration and Leadership in Nursing

Collaboration and leadership are significant in enhancing patient outcomes and
improving the overall performance of healthcare organizations. The evolving practices and
technologies in the healthcare setting highlight the need for both components. Collaboration
is necessary for the process of making decisions regarding some health problems (Montori et
al., 2022). These informed decisions ensure the significance of implementing enhanced
strategies for the betterment of patient outcomes. Collaboration refers to the gathering of
healthcare professionals, nursing staff, and other healthcare stakeholders for the mutual goal.
A leadership component is necessary to keep the team motivated and encouraged. Leaders
play a crucial role in increasing the competency and efficiency of staff members for enhanced
patient outcomes. They keep the team involved in the process of planning, innovations, and
healthcare enhancement. They are responsible for keeping the staff members satisfied with
their work schedule. The satisfied staff can only ensure the well-being of the patients. This

Personal Reflection on Collaboration and Leadership

Being an RN at Capella School, I have been allowed to understand the effectiveness

needed to ensure positive health outcomes. Interdisciplinary collaboration is needed to make
informed decisions regarding the health of the patients. Nurses, physicians, doctors, and care
coordinators all collectively hold great significance in enhancing the treatment provided to
the patient. It also highlights the importance of communication among the team members.
Communication ensures the effectiveness of urgent decisions made for the health of the
patients in emergencies.
Leadership and Delegation Experience
I was assigned the role of leadership in my unit as a charge nurse for a shift. My
responsibility was to streamline the workflow by ensuring that timely care was provided to
the patients, staff members were working actively and they had all the resources they needed
for enhanced patient outcomes. I share my ideas and provide help to the team members
regarding any health issue. I ensure that nursing practices must be considerate of standard
laws and ethical guidelines. Adherence to laws in the nursing practice is necessary for
enhanced patient outcomes and imporved levels of patient satisfaction. I have understood
from my experience that leadership and delegation both hold great significance in enhancing
the outcomes of patients. As a leader I had to assign tasks, maintain a positive work
environment, and ensure the satisfaction of patients.

Strategies for Improving Collaboration and Leadership
Communicating effectively with the team members and actively listening to their
concerns enhances collaboration (Tennant et al., 2023). Regular meetings and consideration
of each other's cultural backgrounds are necessary to ensure that all the members of the team
are respected. Integration of technology for enhancing the effectiveness of communication
between interdisciplinary teams is necessary. Engaging all the members of the team in the
decision-making process ensures the effectiveness of the decisions made. These decisions

improve the health outcomes of the patients and ensure high-quality healthcare services. An
effective leadership role ensures that all the team members are actively listened to and
provided with the support they need. Understand the strength of each staff member and
assign tasks accordingly. A leader should inspire the staff members by setting examples and
showcasing professionalism in cases of emergencies or tough situations. More importantly,
leaders must be able to identify the areas of improvement and implement change accordingly.

Conclusion

Collaboration refers to the gathering of interdisciplinary teams for the
decision-making process regarding the health of the pateints. This collaboration is also based
on identifying the best practices suitable for the health of the patients. Making shared and
informed decisions regarding the health situation and providing treatment dependent on
evidence-based best practices is necessary for patient satisfaction (Galletta et al., 2022).
Moreover, leadership qualities ensure the accuracy of the workflow according to designed
schedules, and consideration of the well-being of the staff providers. Leaders are responsible
for providing support to the team members and, motivating them to bring innovations to the
practice. They keep a check on the effectiveness of nursing practices for the enhancement of
patient experience. Hence, both components have unique significance in increasing the
overall efficiency of healthcare organization.
