Over the last year and a half, incessant violence has been perpetrated against Palestinian civilians at the hand of the Israeli state, primarily those trapped in the Gaza strip. This, according to Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and numerous other organisations, constitutes an ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. Whilst reliable figures are difficult to come by, estimates for the number of civilians dead are in the many tens of thousands, and there are good reasons to suspect these are underestimates.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and other activist groups across the country have paid close attention to the complicity of UK universities in this violence, by way of both direct and indirect investment in Israel, its economy, and (by extension) its military capabilities. The University of York is no exception.
