Which profession should I take after LLB?

There are 4 basic options:

• Arguing counsel.
• A solicitor.
• A judge.
•  

These may have further sub categories.

Arguing counsel: These are lawyers who actually appear before the court to argue the case. They may or may not do the other legal work. They may work independently or be a part of a law firm.

Solicitor: They do all other legal and allied work except appearing before the court. This includes legal advice, drafting, filing and researching. They work in a solicitor firm and do the work allotted to them by their seniors.

Judge: Before you become a judge you have to have experience as an advocate. The judges for the lower judiciary are recruited directly from among the practicing advocates. The examination is conducted by the state PSC under direction of the State High court.

Miscellaneous: This includes two main categories: academics and Advocates on Records. The latter are lawyers certified to sign all the petitions before a Court of Records. The best of the lawyers cannot directly file any petition before the Higher Courts without the signature of an Advocate on Record. Under this head is is incuded the options of becoming a para legal or to compete in the examinations conducted by UPSC or PSC for recruitment to IAS and PCS.

Eligibility for admission:

A student shall be eligible for admission into semester I of the http://B.Com., LL.B. 5 year Integrated Course in Law if he / she has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any other examination which is recognized by the University as equivalent thereto provided that :

1. Such student must have obtained minimum 45% marks in the aggregate in the qualifying examination; person belonging to scheduled cast, scheduled tribes, other Backward classes(OBC) shall be eligible to apply if they secure at least 40% marks in the qualifying examination.

2. Such student has not passed any other examination higher than the 10+2 examination mentioned above prior to seeking admission into the course.

3. The age of the applicant shall not be above 20 years in case of candidates belonging to the general category and shall not be above 22 years in case of applicants belonging to scheduled casts, scheduled tribes, other backward classes (OBC) category as on 1st July of the same academic year in which he or she may be seeking admission.
