The Holy Prophet's childhood and youth have numerous instances and events that every Muslim should know in order to memorize the Quran online and implement its teachings in basic practices of life.

Birth of Holy Prophet SAW

It was on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal 570 A.D when the Holy Prophet SAW was born in Makkah as the child to Abdullah son of Abdul Muttalib and Aamina daughter of Wahab and belonged to the honorable family of Bani Hashim of Quraish tribe.  His father Abdullah died after two months of his birth. His grandfather Abdul Muttalib decided to take the Holy Prophet SAW under his care. He celebrated the birth of his grandson with a gathering on the seventh day of his birth, he slaughtered a sheep and announced the name of the child “ Muhammad”.  The best Quran tutors state that Allah has referred to the Holy Prophet SAW with “Ahmad” as well.

Childhood of Holy Prophet SAW

The childhood of the Holy Prophet SAW was spent with bibi Halima for five years where he was looked after under her guidance and taught about archery and handling of animals. As he became five years old, he was sent back to his mother Aamina. While their visit to the grave of Prophet Muhammad SAW’s father, she felt ill and died. After which the Holy Prophet was taken under the wing of his grandfather. The Holy Quran mentions this event as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful, Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter? (Surah Dhuha, 93:6)

Youth of Holy Prophet SAW

Trade and Business

The Holy Prophet SAW, after the death of his grandfather, was brought up by his uncle, Abu Talib. He incorporated the ethics of trade and business as he took the Holy Prophet SAW with him on trade journeys to Syria and Yemen.  He soon gained a reputation in Makka for his good business sense, his honesty, and trustworthiness. People were so impressed by the qualities of the Holy Prophet SAW, that they began to call him as-Sadiq (the Truthful) and al-Ameen (the Trustworthy).

Role as a shepherd

The Holy Prophet SAW, as he grew to a mature age, started working as a shepherd to help his uncle, Abu Talib. Our Holy Prophet would take the sheep and cattle of his relatives and those of the people of Makkah to the surrounding deserts to graze. He gave his uncle the wages he received in return. This practice outside the noisy, agitated environment of the city and away from people's disputes and conflicts gave him an invaluable opportunity to acquire much experience, of which the sweet fruits appeared during his prophethood and time of leadership.

Modesty and Virtue

The Holy Prophet SAW was different from people of his age group. Being a young man, during all this time he proved himself to possess a noble and spotless character, to be an absolute believer in one God, and thoroughly trustworthy in respect of his companionship, help, and guidance. He was affectionate, kind, and sympathetic to his compatriots; always considerate, truthful, and sincere; perfectly faithful in respect of all trusts and promises. He kept himself away from gambling, drinking, vulgarity, and other evil practices.

The Holy Prophet SAW’s youth is nothing less than an example of nobility, grace, and genuine kindness. His life depicts the character that Muslim ummah should adopt with all the virtues of a pious believer. His deeds and actions in every walk of life are it personal or professional have set a benchmark for mankind. His honesty and fair dealings have earned him the title of Sadiq and Amin, this tells a lot about his youth and his character. If you learn Quran online, you will find great lessons of how the Holy Prophet SAW incorporated the commands of Allah SWT in his dealings.
